I was nervous about selling my grandmother's gold — worried I'd be taken advantage of. Cottage Jewelry was the complete opposite. They explained every step, showed me their testing process, and I walked out feeling great about what I received.

Common Questions

Everything You Want to Know

Selling jewelry is a personal decision. We believe you deserve clear, honest answers before you walk through our door. Our complete guide to selling gold in Evanston explains exactly how the process works, and our appraisals guide covers when formal documentation matters.

We purchase gold jewelry (all karats from 8K–24K), sterling silver, platinum, loose diamonds and diamond jewelry, estate and luxury watches, coins and bullion, antique jewelry, and broken or damaged precious metal pieces.

If you're unsure whether we'll be interested in a particular item, give us a call — we're happy to talk it through before you make the trip in.

Our GIA-certified gemologists test precious metals to verify karat and purity, weigh each piece, and evaluate stones for quality and market value. We reference current live spot prices for gold, silver, and platinum.

We do this openly, in front of you, so you can see and understand exactly how we reach our offer. No black boxes, no mystery.

Walk-ins are always welcome during our regular business hours. However, for larger collections or estate pieces, we recommend scheduling an appointment so we can set aside dedicated, unhurried time just for you.

Call us at (847) 328-1420 to arrange a time — it only takes a minute and ensures the best possible experience.

For a single piece or a small collection, most evaluations take 20–30 minutes. Larger estate collections may take a bit longer. Either way, you'll receive your offer the same day — and if you accept, you're paid right then and there.

There is absolutely no obligation to sell. If you decline our offer, you leave with your pieces and we part ways as friends. We'd rather earn your trust than make a sale that doesn't feel right to you.

We also understand that sentimental value and market value are different things — and we'll never rush you into a decision.

Completely. We conduct all evaluations privately, in-store, and we never share your personal information or transaction details. Selling jewelry is a personal matter and we treat it that way.

Yes — condition has very little bearing on the value of precious metals. A broken gold chain, a bent ring, or a piece missing its stone still carries its full metal value. Bring it in regardless of condition.

We pay by check, same day. For transactions above a certain threshold, we may also offer wire transfer or certified check. You'll know the amount before you agree and you'll receive payment before you leave.

A valid driver's license, and the pieces you'd like to sell. We test and weigh everything in front of you, and you're paid by check the same visit.
